On September 23–24, 2025, the 3rd German-African Green Hydrogen Forum took place at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Bernburg (Saale), bringing together stakeholders from Germany and Africa to discuss the development of a sustainable green hydrogen economy.

How can countries in southern Africa become key players in the global trade in green hydrogen? And what role do sustainability and certification requirements in importing countries play in this process? A new whitepaper published by the HySecunda project provides a first systematic analysis of how differing power to x (PtX) certification requirements influence the ramp up of hydrogen and synthetic fuel export markets from the SADC region – and why strategic decisions already in early project phases are crucial.

The HySecunda Expert Dialogue on October 9th provided valuable insights into how international cooperation can strengthen secure and sustainable energy supply chains, with a clear focus on green hydrogen and Power‑to‑X (PtX).

From 18 to 20 November 2025, the joint Fraunhofer–HySA Infrastructure Matchmaking Workshop took place in Krugersdorp / Muldersdrift, South Africa, bringing together leading representatives from research, industry, and government. The event provided a focused platform for exchange on green hydrogen and renewable energy technologies and strengthened collaboration between German and South African partners.
