Block III - Technology

Objectives

Electrolyzer Stack Components

  • Development of alternative cost- and resource-efficient solutions for the electrolyzer stack
    • Development of thin-film solutions for the bipolar plates (BPP) and porous transport layers (PTL)

Electrolyzer Water Circuit

  • Development of O2 barrier layers for the electrolysis-water circuit

High Pressure Tanks & Pipelines

  • Increase the functionality, safety and service life of PEM electrolysis, storage facilities and pipelines and thus lead to a reduction in costs
    • Development of an H2 and integrity sensor system and O2/H2 barrier layers for tank systems and pipelines for use in different operating environments (high/low temperatures, high/low humidity)
    • Development of high-rate capable sample preparation for coating systems, method development for defect and microstructure diagnostics / analytics for all addressed technology paths
    • Development of a pre-treatment with atmospheric pressure plasma process for the subsequent adhesive coating of tanks and pipelines

H2 Sensor Concept

  • Novel, currentless and therefore safe H2 sensor concept for safe electrolysis operation and safe intermediate storage of H2 to be developed
  • New sensor concept for currentless monitoring of mechanical deformations is to be tested
  • Development of thin-film strain gauges for force/load measurement as a component of the innovative H2 sensor
